The Best Cat Litter for a Cattery

The Best Cat Litter for a Cattery

01 April 2025

For a cattery owner, receiving a cat from a customer for the first time (or even the ninth time) can be a stressful experience for both the pet and its owner. Anyone who has cared for a cat knows that they are highly territorial, dislike change, and can be temperamental and vocal when their routine is disrupted. This is where Kittilitt can help make a difference. It is fast-becoming the best cat litter for a cattery.

Why Kittilitt: 100% Sustainable, Easy to Clean, Natural, Dust free, Highly Absorbent

Kittilitt is made from 100% natural pine pellets that are naturally antiseptic ensuring a healthier environment, which is always good for reducing stress and maintaining cleanliness.

Our cat litter is dust-free, which is crucial for maintaining air quality in your cattery. It is also non-tracking which means it stays inside the litter box, reducing mess and making it easier to maintain a clean cattery. Its highly absorbent nature ensures that moisture is quickly and effectively managed, keeping the litter box dry and comfortable for your cats, unlike other brands that are prone to clumping and dragging.

Better For the Cats Under Your Care (and People)

For a cattery, providing a high-quality experience is essential. It not only helps keep the cat calm and anxiety-free, but when the cat is at ease, the owner will feel more relaxed as well. This increases the likelihood that they’ll confidently drop off their feline friend at your cattery again in the future.

The Kittilitt Difference: Local, Sustainable, and Net Zero

Kittilitt is better for the environment. Its production sources are 100% sustainable, based in the UK and natural, and all trees that are used are replanted within one year. Indeed, we have been awarded the UNESCO Biosphere Certification Mark – the only globally recognised sustainability badge. On top of that we are Grown in Britain certified.

Kittilitt cat litter is made from spruce pine ‘wobbly bits’ (think the top and bottom of the tree) that are de-barked, roasted to drive out the moisture, chipped, and turned into pellets at our factory in Girvan, along Scotland’s Clyde Coast. Unlike clay-based and cheaper alternatives, which can often be mined as far away as Wyoming, over 4,200 miles from the UK as the crow flies (or the cat crawls).

Our entire production facility operates on a net zero basis, powered entirely by biomass boilers that use the very wood waste from our manufacturing process to ensure a ‘closed’ loop system.

Even our plastic packaging is made from recycled materials, and we can take back your old bags, where they are taken to Solway Recycling to be recycled and repurposed.

Why Kittilitt is Better for Cats

Kittilitt does not contain silica particles that can damage a cat’s respiratory tract (and yours) and lead to long-term and debilitating conditions like feline asthma.

Nor does it clump like clay-based litters that can cause intestinal blockages if accidentally ingested by a cat. Kittilitt is naturally scented with a pleasant pine odour, so there’s no need for powder-based litter fresheners and it provides a more pleasant experience for cats, who prefer natural scents to artificial ones.
